Celebrate Painting with Rajesh Sagar

SAS organized art workshop ‘Paint with Rajesh Sagra’ for students from classes III – VIII. Students were invited alongwith their friends.

A post graduate in sculpting, recipient of innumerable awards, unique ability to work in various mediums, bestowed with many fellowships to his credit, brain behind many amazing installations at various venues and many more.

Rajesh Sagra spent three hours at SAS with the students in teaching them techniques of painting without using a pencil. He demonstrated by painting an elephant on a jumbo hand made paper!! The children were encouraged to break free from the concept of ‘The sun is always yellow’. Children were excited to see quickness with which Mr. Sagra could use his hands to draw a lovely elephant in a relaxed way

The workshop worked as an eye opener for the children as a lot of myth towards the art of painting were broken and encouraged to paint freely without worrying what is good and what is bad.

SAS cherishes these three hours as a part of the golden period of the school history.

Traffic Handling by SAS Students

We thank the Traffic department for the support and the knowledge they have extended to our children.

SAS has developed a structure for rights-based, child-friendly educational system within the school that are characterized as "inclusive, healthy and protective for all children, effective with children, and involved with families and communities".

In continuation of the awareness session our class VIII students had with the traffic department on December 9, 2010, the school arranged the practical application for the same. The objective of the session was to give hands on experience to the students to their constitution, and by doing this, spread the message of civic awareness.

Students spent one hour handling the traffic of the three busiest cross roads of Ahmedabad viz. Shyamal Cross Road, Fun Republic Cross road and IIM Cross Road. Not only did they handle the traffic well, they also got involved intensely in penalizing the commuters who were in violation of the rules of the road. The session not only increased the respect for the civic personnel but was also an enriching learning experience for them.

We would be happy to involve them in similar sessions again

Fire Safety Training @ SAS

On December 7, 2010, our students got a thrilling experience of Fire Extinguishing Exercise. From Bodakdev Fire station, a team of fire brigade visited the school with all their equipments including the fire extinguishing van.

The session was initiated by Chief Fire Officer Mr. Mistry, who informed students about the different sources which lead to fire alongwith the types of fire extinguishers. He informed that the fire extinguishers were classified as class A- B – C and discussed the role of colour codes on fire extinguisher in brief. The demonstration of rescue operations during the time of flood, cyclones and other calamities by the fire brigade was the highlight of the session.

This involved t he use of equipments to cut a thick iron rod, to stop the supply of any liquid or gas from the pipes and to push or pull a weight by using machines which have a capacity to hold the weight of 10 tones.

The team members demonstrated how to evacuate tall buildings during rescue mission. For the students the fire men were like super heroes climbing up and down on the building with ease. They cautioned the students not to try this exercise at home as it requires intensive training.

The use of dry chemical powder for CO2 fire extinguishers and precautions to be observed were also demonstrated. Students also enjoyed the hands on experience of working of these extinguishers.

We are indeed thankful to the Bodakdev Fire Station team for making us aware of the role of the public agencies in making our lives safer. This whole exercise was really an eye opener exercise for the students.

Mind Mapping @ SAS

SAS takes a leap forward in meeting challenges that call for new thinking and optimal resource utilization. The intensive Mind Mapping Workshop held for its teachers and students was a step towards managing Knowledge efficiently and successfully. The workshop explored the way by which information and concepts could be encapsulated and its applications investigated.

In the first session, teachers participated enthusiastically as they structured information and knowledge with bright visuals. Using key words, symbols and colours they created mind maps on a large range of topics.

The second session of teachers & students took the learning further. SAS boards are now wearing a colourful look with mind maps of all colours and topics.
The resource person for the workshop was Sh. Amar Gargesh, renowned thinker and writer who has extensive exposure, expertise and experience in creativity and communications and who is a visiting faculty at almost all the major institutes of excellence in higher education in Ahmedabad.

On November 26, 2010, our Pre Primary children had a thrilling experience viewing the city of Ahmedabad from 300ft, riding on a helium gas balloon. At the same time an equally thrilling experience on a train through the tunnel around Kankaria Lake!!

Their joy knew no bounds. We had an opportunity to ensure that they practice what we demonstrate everyday – ‘sharing and caring’. Our children shared their food happily amongst their friends in an informal environment.

Visit to Old Age Home

The tiny tots of classes I and II visited the Maniben Tribhuvandas Mahila Gruh an old age home with the teachers.

Children presented a colorful cultural programme comprising of prayers and songs and enjoyed listening to the bhajans and stories of Lord Krishna. Children took blessings of the Dadis and Nanis by touching their feet and sharing sweets with them. The senior citizens were overwhelmed and advised children to respect elders, imbibe right values and cherish the rich Indian traditions and culture.

Even though the student spent a few hours with the respected elders, it was not enough as there were still lots to share and talk of. They were invited to visit the old age home more frequently particularly for their Sunday prayer service. The children left the place with lots of thoughts lingering in their minds. Altogether it was a visit full of emotions, happiness and empathy.
