Kite and Maanjaa making workshop

Kites have an universal fascination and it defies the laws of age.

Shanti Asiatic School had recently organized a ‘Kite and Maanjaa making workshop’ on the 9th of Jan 2011 in the campus for staff members and students. Experts of these fields were invited to demonstrate and teach our children these arts.

The campus was filled with an urge to measure and cut the papers correctly and to choose the best colors for their Dhori. At the end our children flew the kites that they made. It was a creation and it got the due attention that it deserved. Our tiny toddlers flew balloons.

Our students were overjoyed to watch and experience Adventure Sports!!! Slithering and River crossing were demonstrated and experienced by children. They looked like astronauts who were ready to fly space ships .Thrill over took fear. The journey was as existing as the destination.

Our school witnessed a mixture of emotions that of experimenting, learning, experiencing, fearing, enjoying and many more. Shanti Asiatic School witnessed actual teaching and learning process taking place without a classroom and the routine needs as it was natural and a bond was created between the teachers and the taught within no time.

Open Page Art Competition

Shanti Asiatic School participated in the final round of State wide art competition ‘Impression and Expression 2010’ organized by Open Page. Conducted in two phases’ viz. semi finals and finals, the competition was open for all the children in different categories.

Our students showed a lot of enthusiasm for the competition. Out of 100 students who had participated in preliminary round, 18 students made it to the finals. Our students got selected in all the categories. The final round was organized at Atira Garden Ahmedabad, where over 500 children from 50 different schools participated. The exposure made a huge difference to our children.

Another interesting feature of the competition was the range of themes and the break free ideas to portray. Students had enough opportunities to express themselves with lots of learning in fine arts. The competition enabled students to articulate their creative minds and a chance to meet different students from all over Gujarat.

We are waiting for the results with the hope that our children would make it!!

Session on Parenting @ SAS

‘Parenting is probably the toughest task on the planet!’

Effective parenting has always been an important concern to the family. Appropriate parenting shapes the coming generations, and the way the next generation will behave, affecting the world around them. Knowing the merits of healthy parenting Shanti Asiatic School arranged a special session for the parents with an experienced counselor Dr Shilpa Jasubhi who is a practicing clinical psychologist, a brain gym expert who has several successful sessions to her credit.

The session focused on appropriate behavior with children, methods to understand them, to listen to them and to refrain from always scolding them. The importance of appreciating children’s effort and setting up democratic norms was also stressed.
Parents were advised to be effective role models and realize that it is their action, not words which cast a deep impact on children. The role of siblings and others (in joint family) was also discussed. The importance of setting limits was given and instances where parents try to overestimate/underestimate children problems were an eye opener. Setting realistic target was the key.

Awareness towards parenting was further built when body language and language that inhibits / shut down communication was dealt. A questionnaire with healthy positive parenting tips was given to reflect upon their role as parents.

The reflective session ended on a light note when several impromptu plays were held, where parents participated in various roles. These highlighted the various facets of communication and what inhibits the same.
