The Chess Champ @ SAS

“Without my school’s support, I could not have reached this far. Shanti Asiatic provided a platform to hone my skills,” says Khushman Sancheti, winner of the Chess Championship in Taluka and District Level Chess-Championship (under 14). With participants from 40 schools, Khushman had to face fierce competition but his cool and calm attitude held him in good stead.

A brilliant student of Class VI in Shanti Asiatic School, Khushman is happy to have done his school proud and with this win secured his entry to the State Level Championship.

Khushman exhibited great mental agility, especially in the final game which was a real intense battle that was held at M.P. Pandya High School, Jetalpur. Of all his subjects, it’s the logical thinking and concentration of Mathematics that he enjoys the most, and looks up to his mother as a role model. Ever humble, he credits his success to his school which he says helped him tremendously to develop expertise in his chosen field.

Global Warming is a Global Warning

Today’s younger generation is seriously worried about their future living conditions, and this was demonstrated effectively on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti by the students of Shanti Asiatic School.

This generation, in sync with Gandhian idealology for environment marched ahead with conviction and serious purpose to help improve their environment. And to spread their message effectively, they carried banners and shouted slogans - “Jal hai to kal hai…!”, “Global Warming is a Global Warning, etc.” This initiative was taken by the school’s ‘Prayas’ campaign, which is in tandem with this months theme for ‘Saving Planet Earth’. The students also performed a street play bringing to fore a debate on whether we treat our country like a dumping yard.

Gradually the play moves on larger issues including green house gases emission, conservation of natural resources, ozone layer depletion, converting cultivable lands into buildings and deforestation. Through songs and skits, the students sent across the message of protecting the earth. The rally started from the Helmet Cross Road and concluded at Keshav Bagh. Sizeable crowd gathered on either sides of the street to see a group of young students spreading message of environment conservation. According to school Principal, Mrs Anita Verma, the entire month of September was celebrated as an Environment Month at the School.

Medical Checkup Camp

The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Eating right, exercising, and sleeping well play an equal role in the prevention of infections and diseases. However, a good sense of self, a loving support network, and the potential for continued personal growth is also important to our overall wellbeing.

Many of us are not in control of the factors that cause us to become ill whether they are genetic, environmental, or something else entirely. There are many avenues we can take to improving our health, which include the use of traditional and modern medicines when we are ill.

The discussion during the health talk held on September 3, by Dr Akhil Mukim was to enlighten the parents on health care and hygiene. Followed by the health talk were medical checkups for Dental, ENT and Skin for pre-primary and classes 1 and 2. The main motive behind this camp was to understand that sustainable health and wellness is not only part of our survival but it is also a continuously rewarding way to live out our entire lives.
