Donate Blood-Give a reason to Smile

Shanti Asiatic School is conscious of its social responsibility. The Annual Blood Donation Camp was organized on July12, 2012 at the school campus. Interested parents and well wishers turned up in large numbers to donate blood. Members of the management and staff of SAS, were on the forefront.  It was time to be a hero, a savior.

A session on the  benefits of blood donation was held much in advance. The concerned authorities educated the audience on how donation helps to alleviate some major health problems like heart diseases. Decreases the risk of Hemachromatosis, genetic diseases caused due to extra iron in the body and cancer by stimulating the production of new blood cells and refreshing the system. Various other facts about blood donation were discussed.

Blood donations save life every day. They are used in a wide variety of different situations and to treat a large number of different illnesses and conditions. Despite all our medical advances, there is still no good man-made substitute for human blood, which is why blood donations are so important. People donate blood for different reasons.43 volunteers donated blood, they truly believe in the thought-Rakt daan, maha daan.

World Health Organisation has asked its member countries to shift to 100% voluntary non-remunerated blood donation.SAS joins hand to ensure it’s a success.

SAS Students at Divya Bhaskar Art Competition

An art competition was held on the June 22, 2012, organized by Divya Bhaskar in partnership with Aquarius tours and travels. Students from class IV to IX from different schools across Ahmedabad participated to paint on the topic-“SAVE ENVIRONMENT/SAVE WATER”.

Forty-two Students of Shanti Asiatic participated in the competition where they showed their talent using different mediums like oil pastels, sketch pens, poster colors and pencil colors etc. The organizers also introduced Mr. Dhaval, physically challenged, and he gave a quick demonstration of his artistic skills by sketching a picture of Lord Ganesha within 2 minutes of a Ganesha aarti being played simultaneously. This was extremely encouraging for everyone present there. All the students were gifted a box of oil pastels and pencils as a token of appreciation by the organizers. The competition saw a crowd of over 3000 student participants. Shanti Asiatic students not only enjoyed the process of painting during the competition but came back with a great sense of motivation for life.

Election Time at SAS

Nothing comes easily. My work smells of sweat. Yes, its elections of the Student Council for the Academic year 2012-13at SAS
For any institution to function smoothly it is important to have certain rules and regulations. Set of written rules and regulations to safeguard the interest of the beneficiaries, the interest of any institution/country is the constitution. Our school also has its constitution and the student council enables us to enforce all the set rules for smooth functioning. The student council election is part of this process. It started with the announcement in the assembly.

Lack of will power has caused more failure than lack of intelligence or ability. Our student leaders were bubbling with enthusiasm and determination, as without enthusiasm and effort nothing can be achieved. The students had to undergo an interview for the selection process. The panel of judges Mrs Nikita Chiripal,Mr Ronak Chiripal, the Vice Principals along with the senior staff members scrutinize and selected the Contestants. Dr. Ed Sobey’s Workshop @ SAS

World’s experts in learning technology strongly recommend instilling authentic understanding gained through constructivist activities. Schools are most effective in an atmosphere of learning , rather than in one of top-down teaching. Through activities a child learns faster,They apply critical thinking in their analysis and in reporting their projects. The workshop by Dr.Ed Sobey on June 13, 2012 was in a way, a small effort to develop a sense of responsibility for learning and become life long learners.

Dr. Ed Sobey Founder of the Kids Invent Toys™ Program & National Toy Hall of Fame, USA. Creator of “Kids Invent Toys™”, one of America’s leading authorities and experts on developing children’s creativity and using invention and enterprise in learning, conducted a workshop for SAS students of classes VI and VII.

More than 100 students, grouped in numbers of 8, participated with full zeal and zest. Each group was given 4-6 wheels, cardboards, straw, thin woody sticks, glue and other necessary stationary. With this material each group was asked to prepare a car that would cover the farthest distance.

It was thrilling for the students to invent a car of their own and apply the scientific principles which they have already learnt in class. This exercise helped them to give a practical shape to their imagination. The students were able to invent the model of their own choice, by continuously improving it, so that it could travel the farthest distances. They learnt from their mistakes and corrected themselves reaching to a final shape of a model of the car that travelled well.

The feedback that the students reflected was amazing. Some of the students even exercised the same process of learning at home. The parents on the day of the orientation appreciated the efforts the students as well as that of the teachers.
The learning was phenomenal and a lot of fun element was involved.
