The Electoral process at SAS replicates the Indian electoral process. The Investiture Ceremony that follows is an exercise in exaltation, envisioned to honour the child, the parent and the teacher. The mission is a great awareness of responsibility, service, honour, pride and privilege.

Shanti Asiatic School,Ahmedabad organized an oath taking ceremony for the recently elected team of school prefects on July 22,2012.The team members were brimming with confidence to shoulder the newly assigned duties. The team expressed its gratitude to the election committee for placing confidence in them. The objective of the event was to espouse the confidence, development of leadership qualities and sense of responsibility among the students. The school
has been putting earnest efforts to form the STUDENTS’ COUNCIL every year. This noble gesture was initiated this year also in the month of July, calling nominations for the various posts of students’ council and following the electoral process.

The function began with a prayer song. Depicting through a variety of cultural programmes the relevance of the Indian Philosophy, Saraswati Vandna was sung to seek the blessings of the Almighty. Group songs and shlokas were recited to seek the blessings of the invited parents,  guru and members of the management.
The school Head Girl Akanksha Chowdhay gave the welcome address. It was in a very befitting manner, the badges were pinned and sashes were decorated on the members. Coming to flag receiving ceremony, the Head  Boy,  Sports  Captain, and  House  Captains received school flag, sports flag and house flags respectively from the House Incharges. The team members also took a formal pledge to carry out the duties assigned to them with sincerity and efficiency. Respecting parents is a value that is given much regard. Where as the mothers pinned the badge of honour, the fathers presented the good luck card, urging the budding leaders to understand their responsibility. It was time for the Council to seek blessings from their teachers and members of the Management.

The Director Mrs Nikita Chiripal blessed and congratulated the Students’Council and urged them to work with honesty and perform their duty well. She also said that one could perform well only if one was impartial.

This was followed by an inspiring speech by the chief guest Mrs Poonam Saxena, Principal Amrit Firdaus School. She insisted the need to be role models and take up responsibilities in an able manner. She further went on to say that it was important to have faith in oneself. To give back to the society was need of the hour. Mrs Saxena motivated the students with her words of wisdom. She emphasized on the point that it was difficult to change the surrounding but our path could be changed. Pyramid has a broad base, so to reach the top one has to be focused.

Changing guards, the newly elected Head Girl Hema Joshi and the Head Boy Abhijeet Das assured one and all that they will rise to the occasion. A Chinese proverb says, “For your country if you plan for a year, sow paddy. If you plan for a decade plant trees and if you plan for the future, nurture YOUTH.

56 students of SAS accompanied by 2 staff members visited the NCC camp at Palan, near Nadiad on July12,2012.It was an amazing experience for the students. Rendezvous with Army officers, trainers, cadets was a life time experience for most of the students. It was time to learn the art of rifle shooting and exhibit the physical fitness skills by undergoing through the obstacle race.

NCC inculcates in the youth a sense of nationalism and secular outlook towards building a nation. It channelizes the energy of the youth in constructive pursuits, besides providing thrill and excitement. It makes the youth realize the relationship between the youth and community, community and nature and its inter-dependability.

Feedback from the students.
A mind blowing experience. If ever I get an opportunity to visit the camp, I definitely will.NCC cadets training themselves in scorching heat to be physically tough, inspired me. Rifle shooting was wonderful.

Rendezvous with Cartoonist-Ajit Narayan

Cartoonist, Illustrator, Writer, Mr. Ajit Narayan was given a warm welcome on July 17, 2012 by the SAS students’ fraternity. As a consultant for Scholastic India, he has been conducting cartoon workshops in schools within and outside the country. He has been a part of reputed publishing houses for over 14 years now. Memorable day, when the students were transferred to the world of their favourite cartoons.

Mr.Narayan taught the skill to change expressions by a minor drift in the angle of a line or geometrical figures. “Geometry, “he said was the lifeline of drawing, a sketch. Students were smart enough to spot various observations from figure to figure and time to time. It was a day when the students honed their skill and drew cartoons of their friends. Various moods-anger, happiness, nervous, worry, shock were depicted in the form of cartoons.Sleeping, tired, content, frustrated…emotions a beautiful mode of expression.

Donate Blood-Give a reason to Smile

Shanti Asiatic School is conscious of its social responsibility. The Annual Blood Donation Camp was organized on July12, 2012 at the school campus. Interested parents and well wishers turned up in large numbers to donate blood. Members of the management and staff of SAS, were on the forefront.  It was time to be a hero, a savior.

A session on the  benefits of blood donation was held much in advance. The concerned authorities educated the audience on how donation helps to alleviate some major health problems like heart diseases. Decreases the risk of Hemachromatosis, genetic diseases caused due to extra iron in the body and cancer by stimulating the production of new blood cells and refreshing the system. Various other facts about blood donation were discussed.

Blood donations save life every day. They are used in a wide variety of different situations and to treat a large number of different illnesses and conditions. Despite all our medical advances, there is still no good man-made substitute for human blood, which is why blood donations are so important. People donate blood for different reasons.43 volunteers donated blood, they truly believe in the thought-Rakt daan, maha daan.

World Health Organisation has asked its member countries to shift to 100% voluntary non-remunerated blood donation.SAS joins hand to ensure it’s a success.

An art competition was held on the June 22, 2012, organized by Divya Bhaskar in partnership with Aquarius tours and travels. Students from class IV to IX from different schools across Ahmedabad participated to paint on the topic-“SAVE ENVIRONMENT/SAVE WATER”.

Forty-two Students of Shanti Asiatic participated in the competition where they showed their talent using different mediums like oil pastels, sketch pens, poster colors and pencil colors etc. The organizers also introduced Mr. Dhaval, physically challenged, and he gave a quick demonstration of his artistic skills by sketching a picture of Lord Ganesha within 2 minutes of a Ganesha aarti being played simultaneously. This was extremely encouraging for everyone present there. All the students were gifted a box of oil pastels and pencils as a token of appreciation by the organizers. Election Time at SAS

Nothing comes easily. My work smells of sweat. Yes, its elections of the Student Council for the Academic year 2012-13at SAS
For any institution to function smoothly it is important to have certain rules and regulations. Set of written rules and regulations to safeguard the interest of the beneficiaries, the interest of any institution/country is the constitution. Our school also has its constitution and the student council enables us to enforce all the set rules for smooth functioning. The student council election is part of this process. It started with the announcement in the assembly.

Lack of will power has caused more failure than lack of intelligence or ability. Our student leaders were bubbling with enthusiasm and determination, as without enthusiasm and effort nothing can be achieved. The students had to undergo an interview for the selection process. The panel of judges Mrs Nikita Chiripal,Mr Ronak Chiripal, the Vice Principals along with the senior staff members scrutinize and selected the Contestants. Students made promises on a wide variety of subjects like discipline, organizing school functions and events, maintaining uniformity for the student faculty. Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments. Total number of posts 32.Set of rules was laid down by the school governing body.
