WORST WATER CRISIS IN 10YRS...

All the prominent newspapers are flashing such headlines. Yes, this summer is not only hotter but also has brought severer water crisis with it. Even a massive campaign might not be sufficient to completely control the situation.

Yet a small endeavor can make a big difference- this is what 'Shanti Educational Initiatives' firmly believes in, and that is the reason why we always extend our roles beyond the four walls of our work periphery to reach out to the society.

In this scorching heat it’s just a humble gesture in the form of ‘Jal Seva’ to quench the thirst of common people with cool and pure drinking water (from our RO plant). For this service we identified locations with long stretches where no drinking water is available and where the intensity of heat is as strong as the craving for cool water. The Jal Seva began on 21st May 2011 and we have already covered Bopal, Ghuma, Nehru Nagar Circle, IIM circle etc.

Thank-you Ahmedabad! - Shanti Asiatic School

When Shanti Asiatic School launched in June 2009, we earnestly hoped for our vision to be embraced by the city. But that we would need to expand in only three years has taken us by surprise!

The warm welcome has obliged us to expand to accommodate the unrelenting demand of parents, who have validated our mission to ‘celebrate change’ in education. SAS has undertaken to build and add to its existing structure, to accommodate more students in 2012.

The ‘bhumi pujan’ was conducted on 12th May, with an anticipation of a growing mutual respect with the citizens of Ahmedabad and a promise in our heart to go beyond the call of duty and serve the faith placed upon us.

Padmashree Darshana Jhaveri @ SAS

SAS had a mesmerizing evening with, Manipuri dancer Padmashree Darshana Jhaveri and her team of artists on April 17,2011. The youngest of all the Jhaveri sisters ,to carry the legacy of Manipuri dance, she displayed her dance talent and versatility with delicate slow and graceful steps.

In the lecture cum demo Darshana ma’am depicted the various facial emotions and hand gestures. The Raslila which is the most beautiful form of Manipuri dance style was a sheer delight to watch. The elaborate costume and intricate makeup added much magnificence and splendor to the show.

The team of artists consisted of accomplished musicians, drummers and dancers from Manipur. Of special interest were the drummers from Assam who displayed the energetic Tandav style in dancing with vigour.

The students and parents had a good interactive session with Darshana Ma’am and Spic Macay co-ordinator Mrs Sushma Jacob. The audiences were spell bound not only by the graceful dance sequence but the enchanting ambience of the SAS plaza. Dance they say is the mother of all art. The artists were felicitated with floral greetings and mementoes .The programme was par-excellence and met with stupendous success.

Workshop on Change Management at Shanti Asiatic School

‘Be the change you want to see in this world.’
‘Improvement begins with I’.

This was the essence of the workshop on CHANGE, which was conducted for students of classes 7th, 8th and 9th. The session was carried through with the help of a story of a turtle and a wise owl. As the turtle takes a different route one day and falls on his back, not being able to turn over; a wise owl gives him lessons of life. The choice of a different path, the place of honour that trees have, the affirmation of our dreams which clouds give us, the fact that every moment counts and that now is the time, mountains taking us to our goals and the energy of friends and family keeping us motivated was the way the turtle learnt his lessons.

Students were also made to understand the essence of change through some activities on lateral thinking and perception. They enjoyed the meaning of ‘change’ through the story; the discussions leading to understanding of ‘attitude’, ‘effort’, ‘motivation’, ‘success’, etc. It was a very interactive workshop.
