Kite Festival At SAS

How bright on the blue
Is a kite when it's new!

With a dive and a dip
It snaps its tail
Then soars like a ship
With only a sail

As over tides
Of wind it rides,

Climbs to the crest
Of a gust and pulls,
Then seems to rest
As wind falls.

When string goes slack
You wind it back

Uttarayan was celebrated with great festivity on SAS campus. It was a bright, sunny, breezy morning. The SAS kites, gifted to the students soared high. The students rolled the spool, competing with their friends. Traditional sweets the”Chikki” was also distributed. PPT presentation was given to the students on “Safety to be observed while flying kites.”There was a ban on the usage of manja thread. Helpline numbers of ASHA Foundation,CHETNA Kendra and SHANTIDOOT was given to SAS fraternity,for the injured birds and animals.

An extraordinary day for the students. Children of all ages flew kites and rejoiced in the spirit of the day. The open blue sky was enlivened with the designer SAS kites.
The flying kites soared the spirit of “Uttarayan” higher.

Knowledge Carnival 2011

Shanti Asiatic School, Ahmadabad celebrated its second Knowledge Carnival on its campus. Dr P Babu, Chief Commissioner Central Excise and Mrs Shobha Babu were the Chief Guest for the Carnival.SAS was also honoured to have Mr Ajay Tomar, Joint Commissioner of Police,IPS as the guest of honour.

This amazing carnival comprising of 35 stalls was managed by the students with much enthusiasm. The Carnival was a blend of fun and knowledge had something for everyone. Through this event the students displayed their multiple life skills and every stall was bursting with games and thinning out knowledge. The stalls included, Bioscope, Web Design, Art Creek, Craft Bazaar, Mathemagics, Language Games, Interactive Science with RA-ONE’s heart, IT meets creativity, Innovative Jewellery, and Tattoo Making stalls.

The main attractions of the evening were Knowledge Housie enjoyed by each one, the traditional dance by the students and the choir that had everyone swaying to the beats of songs .Some familiar cartoon characters who mingled with the crowd gave a fillip to the whole Carnival . There were rides for children, and a number of food stalls serving delicious and mouth-watering food. The carnival was a huge success and this unforgettable evening came to an end with lot of smiles signifying joy.

The festive season before Christmas and New Year was the time to showcase the talents of the students. Carnival involves public celebration and the parents graced the occasion in large number. More than 2000 guests were present. Students were dressed up and masqueraded during the celebration. It was an overturning of daily life, a wonderful break from monotony and time to gear up for festivity.

Shanti Asiatic Inter School Chess Tournament 2011-12

Shanti Asiatic School and Gujarat State Chess Association jointly organized the First Shanti Asiatic Inter school Chess Tournament in the school campus of Shanti Asiatic School, Bopal. 412 participants from 55 schools of Ahmedabad, Anand and Baroda participated in this tournament.

The tournament was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Vishal Chiripal, Director of Chiripal Group. Mr. Kartikey Shukla, Vice President – GSCA and Mr. Bharat Patel witnessed the inauguration of the programme as a Special Guest. Master Fenil Shah, Ms. Dhyani Dave and Master Hetul Shah, who have represented India at various International Chess Tournaments and grabbed medals were inspiring role models, also present during the ceremony. The Chief Arbiter of the Tournament was Mr. Vimal Srivastava. All the state functionaries of the GSCA ,notably graced the occasion.

The Tournament was categorized in 5 different groups, Under 7, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15. In each group 5 winners were awarded the trophy. The results of the tournament are as follows:

Under 7 : Jainam Shah (Udgam School) – First, Abhay Nistala (St. Xavier’s) – Second, Khush Jain (Baroda) – Third, Sahil Samdhani (Nirman School) – Fourth and Akshat Shah – FifthUnder 9 : Ansh Shah (Baroda) – First, Naitik Mehta (K. N. School) – Second, Rutvi Shah (Udgam School) – Third, Yashit Agrawal (AIS) – Fourth, and Vansh Shah (AIS ) – Fifth.

Under 11 : Dhruv Anjaria (H.B.K.) – First, Harsh Bhatt (Nirma) – Second, Hetvi – Third, Malay Damani – Fourth and Ishdeep Singh Chhabda (Anand) – Fifth.
Under 13 : Jwalin Mehta (C. N. Vidyalaya) – First, Harsh Srivastav (DAV) – Second, Tigmanshu Dave (Sharda) – Third, Chirag Gupta (K.V.) – Fourth and Shivam Shukla (Tripada) – Fifth
Under 15 : Vishal Diduvania (SGVP) – First, Shravan Modi (Nirman) – Second, Vedant Agrawal (Eklavya) – Third, Saurabh Desai (Baroda) – Fourth and Shashin Barot (J.G. International) – Fifth.

In the closing ceremony, the Chief Guest Mr. Jyoti Prasad Chiripal, Director, Chiripal Group, Mr. Ronak Chiripal of Chiripal Group and Mr. Manek Arya, Director, All India Radio, Jaipur – Udaipur gave away the prizes to the winners of all the groups.

SAS Students Visit KNP

Kanaha National Park in Madhya Pradesh forms the core of the Tiger Reserve in India.23 students and 3staff members of SAS visited the Tiger reserve which is known for its dramatic natural splendor .The students had a great time as it is the hub of Indian and International tourists.

The reserve has an excellent infrastructure and is famous for “gaur” and hard-hoofed swamp deer. Students were captivated by the wide variety of animals like jackal, chital, sambar, black buck etc. and a wide variety of birds.SAS students enjoyed the spectacular sunset from the Sunset point. Jungle Safari was an exciting experience. Visit to Beraghat was truly memorable as it was along the river Narmada and in the valley of white marbles. Smiles…smiles all the way!

Inter School Chess Tournament-Host SAS

SAS in association with Gujarat State Chess Tournament will organize Inter School Chess tournament on Dec 4, 2011 in the school premises. More than 18 schools and 250 students are expected to participate. The tournament is categorized into 5 groups-Under 7, 9, 11, 13 and under 15.This Chess Tournament will be an annual feature henceforth.

The square checkered board game helps children to gain insight and improve concentration. This will help them in any competitive endeavor as it seeks to improve critical thinking. Research shows that students who seriously play chess improve in mathematics and science subjects.
SAS family expects the tournament to be a huge success.

Baby’s Day Out to Traffic Park

The pre-primary wing of SAS had an exciting visit to the Traffic Park, Ahmedabad.
En-route the way, to the Traffic Park, children were engaged in singing rhymes and songs. On reaching the Park, excitement surrounded the children as they could explore dummies of the Traffic Policemen, traffic lights, AMTS buses, ambulance, train tunnels, railway crossing and so on…All the students enjoyed a ride on the bicycles and played in the sand pit. The students were treated to mouth watering delicious snacks and juicy drink.

The Traffic Park is an offer to instill traffic rules among the students of SAS. It is the miniature replica of the city and a tourist attraction.

Childrens’ Day at SAS

Nov 14,the birth anniversary of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, first Prime Minister of Independent India. Childrens’ Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at SAS. Special Assembly was conducted, which was graced by the school management. The assembly started with a Prayer, followed by a thought, and the information on the importance of the day.

“Fun and Frolic” engrossed the children of Pre-Primary. Coloured clothes, enthusiasm and decorations set the perfect mood to justify the day. The three Piggy Tales enthralled the children with excitement, curiosity and joy, as it was enacted by the teachers. The students were stunned to see the staff members perform on “Bum bum bole…”Which was applauded by the students. Followed by cheering and finally into dancing by them.

The highlight of the day was the skit and mime showcased by the staff. Lunch was served to the students and staff. It was truly an entertaining day for the students.

The day ended on a note of reflection as the students’ attention was drawn to the large number of children in our country that are engaged in child labour. Taking the pledge of spreading education, EACH 1TEACH 1programme was launched by SAS Chairman Mr Ronak Chiripal and the Principal Mrs. Anita Verma.
