Our young gardeners were out in the field in the lushy play ground to learn about the trade. Each one of them had an opportunity to touch, feel and use all the tools like Axes / Pair of huge Scissors / Shovels under supervision. Undoubtedly children were excited.

Teachers on Picnic

The staff of SAS got a much needed break from their hectic routine when a trip was organised for them to Dudh Sagar Dairy, Mehsana and Balaram Palace. At Mehsana they were welcomed by the staff of Dudh Sagar who treated them to a sumptuous breakfast before a visit to their milk plant. It was definitely an informative trip as the SAS staff got to know about the procedure of procurement, pasteurization and packaging of various kinds of milk and its forms.

They then proceeded to the Balaram Palace. Once there, they were spellbound by the spectacular scenery. The palace lay amidst the Aravali range with a breathtaking view of the valley below. Its plush gardens rejuvenated the SAS team and the child within them came alive. Everyone enjoyed playing a few team building games and had loads of fun before digging into the delicious buffet.

As it was time to return to Ahmadabad, none were willing to board the bus and were craving to have some more fun. It was truly a refreshing day and we all hope and look forward to such more memorable trips organised for the staff in the future too.

TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR HOW I WONDER WHAT YOU ARE!

At Shanti Asiatic School, we believe in giving our children opportunities for doing little things; for looking around and exploring. We firmly believe that these little things occupy the biggest part in their heart and lead to the most joyful learning.

As a part of an effort to make learning more meaningful, a Sky gazing activity was organized in the School campus from 6pm – 8 pm on Thursday, November 18, 2010. The faculty team from the astronomy department of Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre was instrumental in setting up several telescopes in the lawn and making the event a grand success. A live practical explanation to locate various constellations (Lyra, Summer Triangle, Cassiopeia etc), pole star, planets and their satellites was lucidly provided.

Children were thrilled to actually see these celestial bodies about which they had only read about in their books. A wave of exhilaration ran through them as they located an artificial satellite moving very swiftly. Through the telescope, students could observe the planet of Jupiter with its four satellites and a belt of gases, rocks and ice around it. The craters of the Moon with its terminating line were also very vividly observed through the powerful telescopes.

While the information provided about the focal lengths of the telescope and the magnification with respect to the human eye intrigued those interested in physics, the ‘aha’ experience of all the children after seeing the planets and their satellite was a joy to watch and cherish.

We are hopeful that this activity would have inspired many of our young children to build on their dream and pursue research in the field of Astronomy and Science in their future lives.

Happy Children's Day....!

The day began with the intention of making children feel special.
Teachers had made up their minds to lead all the activities planned for the day.
Right from welcoming children with traditional TILAK to performing for the children, the day was for the children to have fun & celebrate childhood with the school.
All the classes had ballons which were bursted to bestow choclates on children.
All children received a delicious cake piece from the school.
When children witnessed teachers performing Kawali, Mime, Song and relate they were reassured that the day was theirs.
As an extension,teachers enabled students of Pre Primary to play musical chair and the children thoroughly enjoyed the complete attention that they received.

Samarpan 2010

SAMARPAN – Celebrating the special bond between children and their grandparents is truly a very special event at Shanti Asiatic School, which was held on Friday, October 29, 2010. Children are the pillars of tomorrow – the pillars of coming time. Are we nurturing them into becoming healthy human beings? Do we make them a good human – one with virtues and values?

Our Indian culture is rich and varied but many children are not able to realize its value. Lifestyle changes have struck many families and the sense of family identity, values, belief and principles is a big question mark in the lives of many children.

SAMARPAN is an attempt not only to instill the sense of belongingness and identity with our roots in our students; it is also to cherish the loving and unique relation that exists between grandparents and children.

The programme at SAS showed the various facets of the unique relationship. Being demanding, having tantrums, appeasing and soothing are some of these. These sentiments were lovingly expressed by the young students singing time old favorite songs for grandparents. The different equations existing in families and how it impacts our value and virtue system was presented brilliantly by the depiction of ‘Vikram and Baital’ skit. A reality check through a questionnaire explored interestingly the intensity of bonding not only with children but also between parents and grandparents. Several games and activities were specially designed to bring light fun-filled moments which will make the grandparents cherish the evening for a long time
